If you are interested in helping alleviate the nursing shortage you may want to consider facilitating groups for student nurses, and nurses in professional settings. Research indicates groups undergoing stress exhibit less spontaneity, increased absenteeism and burnout. Student nurses, novice nurses, returning nurses, and employed nurses often experience fear regarding the overwhelming amount of responsibility the job entails. 50% of the nursing workforce reported having been a victim of bullying or disruptive behavior at work and more than 90% stated they had witnessed this behavior of others. Your job as a facilitator will be to maintain confidentiality and follow a specific format which will lower stress, empower nurses and build group cohesiveness. To become a facilitator you will need to undergo training and meet certain requirements. You
will be asked to provide support groups in college settings and local hospital settings. You must be willing to follow
guidelines as your work will be part of a research project to promote regular support groups in California nursing
schools and in professional settings. You will receive supervision weekly by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. You will have to show proof of being in either the second year of Master's Program in Marriage and Family Therapy or be licensed as a MFT. Either case you will be required to go through the training which includes art therapy interventions. Free continuing education hours will be included.
